OPEN CALL [1]

Deadline expired

For a new zine series, Unformed Informed (Publishing) is opening up its mailbox for proposals by artists/authors who explore language as an instrument and construct. With the series we want to create a space for small scale experiments with texts and/or images. Not to publish a definitive, immutable object, but to make a suggestion. One that is open to improvement, revision, call-and-response, iteration, or even a full negation. The work needs to be developed within the set framework:

● Size: 10,5 x 29,7 cm (Multiple ways to achieve this size︎︎︎)
● Number of pages: 12 - 32
● Printing method: b/w photocopy
● Edition: 100

Artists with the selected proposals will receive a modest fee of € 250,- and 5 copies of their publication. Artists/authors retain rights to their work. Design, editing, printing, and production is covered by Unformed Informed (Publishing).

Send the following to hello@unformedinformed.com:
● Your proposal for the zine (max. 250 words) in which you describe the concept of the work you would like to publish. Note: you do not need to have a full body of work or manuscript completed before applying.
● A short bio and portfolio (pdf. max. 10 pages).

If you are selected, the preparation and production of your publication will take place in 2023. The specifics will be determined together with the artist.

[1] ”Anyone from anywhere” is welcome to apply. We will work on the publication online.
(Frequently) asked questions:

Q: Are there any language restrictions?
A: The Proposal should be written in English, but the subject of the project -since it;s an investigation in language as an instrument or construct- can be about/in any language.

Q: Is the content provided by one artist? Or will there be several artists in every publication?
A: Every project will be published in its own publication. Within the set framework the artist/author can create the space they need for their project. We will work on the final design/editing together.

Q: I work in collaboration with an other artist/author, can we apply together?
A: Collaborations are more than welcome to apply.

Q: Do I need to be based in The Netherlands to apply?
A: Although we like to work with artists/authors in person, we don;t want to limit ourselces to a specific location. So for this OPEN CALL “anyone from anywhere” is welcom to apply. We will work on the publication online (and hopefully meet and celebrate the collaboration sometime/somewhere in person).
